Australia Post

170 meters of stories...

For 200 years, Australia Post has developed miniature pieces of art and shared this art with the world via the humble stamp.

With the recent move to new headquarters, Australia Post decided to celebrate the small art hero. Commissioned in late 2008, XSD undertook the conception of 17 floors of corporate art that manifested as modular wall art.

Each artwork is 9.5 x 1.5metres and was inspired by selected stamp series and follows the building's core theme: 'Everyday Everywhere'. The sub-themes "CBD", "Metro" and "Regional" enable the artworks to integrate with the building interiors by way of subject matter, colour and texture. Having designed more than a dozen stamp series over as many years, XSD was well positioned to design the artwork for Australia Post.

A modular system was developed, allowing for the artworks to be interchanged between floors. A blade detail was designed not only as a sculptural feature, but also as a way of breaking the overall artwork into smaller manageable panels for easy relocation.
